Abstract

A social crisis that contemporary societies face is the increasing rate of divorce that results in detrimental effects on societies as well as families. The present study has aimed to examine the factors of sensation seeking among married and divorced women in different regions of Tehran, Iran. A qualitative phenomenology method was utilized for the purpose of this research. Using a purposive sampling technique, a number of married and divorced women who referred to a counseling center was interviewed. The findings indicated that sensation seeking factors such as seeking diversity, self-indulgence, seeking beauty and risk-taking were more worded by divorced women. Nevertheless, sentences indicating factors such as pessimism to the opposite sex and sociability were more found among married women.
